"Bizzy" gets first show points!

Postby freefallgsp » Sun Jul 04, 2010 5:08 pm

Just figured I would post a brag, but we went to our first show early in June in Grayslake, IL. My boy, Hunter's Ridge Sinking the Bismarck SH (+4 MH Qs) took his first points back to back beating one dog each day. He is now officially AKC pointed for his Championship.

I've grown up showing Greater Swiss, but this was my first time getting a point in the GSP ring. I had always known I had "show-quality" dogs, because that is why I purchased them from my breeders in the first place. But both my boys had never actually "grown up" at 9-12 months (so we pursued hunting instead) when Swissies did. He was shown only two times before this - back when he was only a 6 month old puppy for one day, and then a weekend this past December where he took back-to-back Reserves (2nd Place to the winning dog) to a "major" (3 points or greater).

I'm very pleased and hopefully Bizzy can continue to get his CH in some more shows later this year or early next year. He's really turning into "that dog" that I had always hoped I would own.

Congrats Jessica and Bizzy. He's a handsome boy!

We just showed for our 2nd time last weekend, and got our first two points. Pretty exciting stuff, getting those first points.

Thanks Denise! I seem to think he's something special (and he seems to agree, the brat!)
And, congrats on your first two points! You went to Iowa City, right? That is excellent news. She looks well put together in the pictures I've seen you post.
Are you going to the Belvidere (Kishwaukee/Blackhawk) shows in two weeks? There are Specialties (and majors in boys) all three days...

I thought about Belvidere, but I don't think we're ready for the big leagues yet. By the time I added up gas, hotels, and entry fees...I was going to have to eat mac n'cheese for a month too. Going to DeKalb this weekend...

On Edit--Wow, I just checked out the numbers on the R.J. site. 33 and 34 each day--that's 4x the number of GSPs I've ran into at a show so far.

Yeah, that's true. That's only why I go to a show a month roughly. It tends to get expensive, another reason I've waited until after Bizzy turned 2 was because he just wasn't mature enough physically to handle a show and place even against himself and another dog as a puppy. I focused more on the hunt tests because that took up a little more time and allowed him to mature. :)

Yeah, it's quite the turn out. This past weekend in West Bend it was 5 point majors in boys all three days if I recall. There was like 14 class dogs and 12 class bitches. Kicking myself for not entering on Friday because I only worked 7-1 and then the show started at 4, and the show site is only 45 minutes from my house!

Good luck in DeKalb, as Belvidere will be our last show for the summer, have to start prepping to finish MH titles this fall and then maybe do some hunting here and there between a show or two. :)
